Always in the shop!

I have had my S40 for 3 years, and it is in the shop about every three months for something or another. I have already had the transmission replaced, and the car only has 25,000 miles on it. The warranty is about to expire, and I feel I cannot keep this car without a warranty to cover all the expensive fixes. When it runs, it is a perfect car, but it is always in the shop! - 2.0

I have never had a car with so many problems after so few miles: AC, power locks, brakes, airbag, engine. In one year, I have taken this car in for repairs seven times. - 5.0
Excellent Value

Just a few minor things keep this from being a true 5 star vehicle. I'd like a little more kick from the non-turbo engine, but I'd hardly call this car underpowered. Real minor touches that would also boost the rating would have been a remote trunk release and doors that unlock automatically when the key is removed. That's it for dissatisfactions. If you do not seat 4 adults on multi hour trips on a regular basis, the interior is roomy enough. The seating (cloth) is the most comfortable I've ever owned. Despite what some reviews said, I find the console very easy to understand and very ergonomic. Handling response is great, just a little slower on the takeoff than I'd prefer. The trunk is roomy enough for trips to my local warehouse store for weekly shopping or family weekend getaway. Easily the nicest looking car I've owned. People do not believe me when I tell them this is in the same price class as some Japanese imports, yet handles as nice as the German imports costing up to one third more. One of the biggest surprises has been the economy. With the great city mileage I get, despite all the hill climbing I have to do, I can live with slower take off. I am also satisfied with the cars hill climbing ability, so I have no hesitation says it is NOT underpowered. On the highway, this cruises like a dream. With all the music choices (AM/FM, CD/MP3-CD, Sirrius or MP3 player plugged into a jack built-in) you will not get bored on long trips either. Excellent value, excellent looks and excellent mechanical quality add up to excellent value all around!
